Opened in 1990, Aotea Centre was designed around specially commissioned works by some of New Zealand's most famous contemporary artists. This emphasis on design, together with large expanses of space bathed in natural day light, make it the ideal location for both business and pleasure.

The building boasts the latest cutting edge technology throughout. All spaces have both wired and wireless connections and rooms can be easily data-linked making the venue ideal for large conventions requiring multiple rooms.

The Aotea Centre houses New Zealand’s largest modern tiered auditorium, seating more than 2,000 people over three levels.

The centre was refurbished in 2013 to include two theatres: the 2139-seat ASB Theatre, and the 186-seat Herald Theatre. The front face of the venue was opened up to include a café, now known as BOX Café and Bar.

The latest refurbishments will modernise the exterior and upgrade the interior to suit its wonderful theatres. The open design, expansive foyers and function spaces will be even more appealing. You will see sophisticated new wall, floor and lighting treatments, a brand-new glass box office at the entrance, and appealing bar areas on all levels.

The Centre will close in October 2018 during the internal renovations and will reopen in March 2019.

"It was one of the best organised events I've ever been part of and the crew at the Aotea Centre were incredible. They had everything perfectly organised and were total pros. It really was a fabulous event and everyone left energised and impressed by the venue."
