The Kiwibank New Zealander of the Year Awards celebrate exceptional individuals and communities who contribute to the betterment of Aotearoa through leadership, innovation, compassion, and service. These awards recognise New Zealanders across various fields who are making a significant impact locally, nationally, and globally.

In 2025, the Awards gala was presented at Auckland’s Viaduct Events Centre - one of Auckland Conventions, Venues & Events’ premier destinations. This flagship venue was transformed to host a prestigious banquet for 900 guests, occupying the entire ground floor in a cocktail and seated banquet configuration. The event brought together a diverse audience: semi-finalists, finalists and their whānau, past recipients, sponsors, corporate partners, government dignitaries, media, and members of the public.

The event was delivered through a seamless partnership between Auckland Conventions, Venues & Events, Brown Bread, Kiwibank, and Collective Hospitality. Together, the team created an experience that was not only technically flawless but emotionally resonant - celebrating the people who embody the spirit and strength of Aotearoa.

The Viaduct Events Centre - located on Auckland’s stunning waterfront in the Wynyard Quarter - offered the perfect stage for this celebration. The venue delivered both visual impact and functional flexibility. The building’s modern architecture, expansive glass walls and open balconies created a light-filled, immersive environment, connecting the guests to the beauty of the venue and its surroundings. The seven adaptable spaces and capacity to host up to 1,200 seated guests, met the client’s needs with a focus on sustainability which is embedded in the venues’ design, from solar panels and energy-efficient systems to water-saving features and motion-controlled lighting.

Beyond the setting, it was the people who brought the magic. The Auckland Conventions, Venues & Events team delivered full technical production, seamless logistics, attentive service, and a commitment to excellence that allowed every aspect of the evening to shine.

The 2025 awards were more than a celebration - they were a showcase of what New Zealand stands for. And Viaduct Events Centre was proud to be the home of that story.

The gala evening included a pre-dinner cocktail reception, a seated three-course banquet for 900 guests, an awards ceremony honouring 21 finalists across multiple categories, and a post-event celebration known as the "Night Cap."

Event Success

The 2025 Kiwibank New Zealander of the Year Awards aimed to deliver a powerful, polished event that honoured Aotearoa’s most inspiring people. We helped realise this vision by:

Our team at Viaduct Events Centre worked in close collaboration with Brown Bread to refine every detail - from precise run-of-show execution to efficient transitions between service, speeches, and celebration. Our in-house technical and operations teams ensured the night ran smoothly, with broadcast-quality lighting, AV, and stage management that elevated the experience from start to finish.

We reimagined the event layout, reorienting the room and stage to improve sightlines and create a more inclusive, audience-focused experience. This allowed every guest to fully engage with the finalists’ stories - whether viewing in person or virtually. Our venue’s flexibility, paired with our production expertise, helped make each finalist feel truly seen and celebrated.

With panoramic harbour views, locally inspired design, and AV-led storytelling, the Viaduct Events Centre offered a uniquely New Zealand backdrop. Our technical team used innovative lighting and an immersive 28-metre LED screen to bring powerful visual storytelling to life - making the event feel both deeply personal and nationally significant.

Our venue and staff supported accessibility and social sustainability goals by ensuring every guest - regardless of background - felt welcomed, comfortable, and respected from the moment they entered. From coat check to security to duty managers, every team member reflected our commitment to hospitality, cultural sensitivity, and pride in service.

With tight budgets and last-minute changes, our team remained agile, and solutions focused. We navigated complex technical needs, adjusted floorplans to maximise capacity, and integrated AV and digital signage in place of paper collateral - all without compromising quality or guest experience.

By embedding ourselves in every stage of planning and delivery, Auckland Conventions, Venues & Events went beyond hosting. We helped bring the event’s vision and values to life - delivering an evening that was both operationally outstanding and emotionally unforgettable.
