Hōro ā-Tāone o Tāmaki Makaurau | Auckland Town Hall has stood proudly at the heart of the city since 1911 – a magnificent landmark where history, culture and celebration converge.

For more than a century, this architectural gem has hosted the city’s most memorable moments, from gala dinners and corporate networking to grand concerts and civic ceremonies. Today, it continues to shine as one of New Zealand’s premier heritage venues – and one that’s well worth crossing the Tasman to experience.

Lovingly restored in the 1990s, Auckland Town Hall offers the perfect blend of Edwardian Baroque grandeur and modern versatility. Its two main spaces – the Great Hall and the Concert Chamber – are adaptable, elegant and designed to impress. Both feature removable theatre-style seating, transforming easily from an auditorium into a grand open floor, ready for a gala dinner, cocktail function, conference or awards night.

From corporate celebrations to product launches and concerts, Auckland Town Hall has played host to an extraordinary range of events. Its flexible layout, central location and timeless charm make it an inspired choice for Australian event professionals seeking something truly memorable and easy to access.

The story of Auckland Town Hall carries a special trans-Tasman connection. Designed by Australian architects JJ & EJ Clarke, the building was inspired by Lambeth Town Hall in Brixton, London. Constructed from South Island Oamaru limestone atop a foundation of Australian bluestone, the five-storey building symbolises a collaboration that has linked Australia and New Zealand for more than a century.

Inside, visitors are greeted with exquisite heritage craftsmanship – from kauri timber floors and pressed metal ceilings to stained-glass windows and hand-blown chandeliers. Every detail tells a story of artistry and civic pride. The clocktower, with its four-faced clock gifted by former mayor Sir Arthur Myers, remains one of Auckland’s most recognisable features.

At the centre of the Great Hall stands a national treasure – the Auckland Town Hall Organ, the largest musical instrument in New Zealand. Built in 1911 and meticulously rebuilt in 2010, it boasts more than 5000 pipes, 114 stops, and even features two unique stops that replicate the sounds of traditional Māori instruments Auckland Town Hall Organ – the kōauau (flute) and pūkāea (trumpet).
