From Sunday 23 February 2020 until early 2021, significant City Rail Link (CRL) works in Auckland’s inner city will be affecting traffic and bus routes near and around Auckland Conventions, Venues & Events’ venues and the Aotea Arts Quarter.

These will cause significant delays to motorists and public transport users in the CBD.

Please ensure you factor in extra travel time if you are planning on coming to the Aotea Centre, Auckland Town Hall, Auckland Art Gallery or The Civic.

Or, beat the rush and come into town early to relax over a snack or drink at one of our cafés and bars before the event starts.

From Sunday 23 February:

  • City-bound buses from the North Shore, west Auckland and in the central Auckland will be diverted along Mayoral Drive or Victoria Street, depending on the route. You can find out more about these diversions here, or plan your public transport journey in advance here.

From Sunday 1 March:

  • The intersection at Wellesley Street West, Mayoral Drive and Albert Street will be closed to all vehicles. Mayoral Drive and Victoria Street will be used to divert traffic. Access to car parks in the surrounding areas will be unaffected.

The latest works and road updates are available on the Auckland Transport website.

Due to traffic congestion, the Civic Car Park and other CBD-based parking may be full or difficult to get into when you come to one of our city venues. You can check on CBD car park availability using the AT real-time parking app on the Auckland Live website.

People will still be able to access our venues and nearby businesses, shops and homes in the area on foot, and to be able to walk around the intersection.

Temporary accessible (step free) footpaths are in place around the Wellesley Street/Mayoral Drive/Albert Street works zone.

People on bikes will need to walk their wheels along the temporary footpaths or can use the alternative routes along Victoria Street and Mayoral Drive.

Step-free access from Civic Car Park is available to the Aotea Centre, Auckland Town Hall and The Civic via a combination of elevators, flat and sloping floors/pavements. Aotea Centre Level 1 can be accessed internally from the car park.

The Wellesley Street West entrance to Bledisloe Lane (a popular drop-off point) will be closed for vehicle drop-offs. Elliot Street, another popular drop-off point, will remain open, as well as Myers Lane, accessible off Mayoral Drive.

Limited mobility parking is available at the Civic Car Park on a first-come, first-served basis.

You can find a map of all accessibility parking in the CBD here.

Please check the start times of your event and plan your trip in advance. Please factor in an extra 30 minutes to your travel time when planning your journey to the CBD.
